Here in Northeast Ohio, we are still awaiting the arrival of spring.  But it IS coming, and with it, every allergy sufferer’s least favorite time of year.  Since staying indoors is not really an option for most of us…let’s talk about how essential oils could help you survive the allergy season.

There are several opinions about whether or not oils should even be used in this way.  The key to remember is (as I stated last month): not all essential oils are created equal.  Some brands are perfectly safe to ingest and use topically (as directed) and other brands are NOT intended for anything other than aromatic use.

Personally, I have enjoyed the combination of Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint Oils as a tool to lessen allergy symptoms.  I would have never mixed these three oils together, but the combination of light floral, citrus, and mint is really refreshing.  (Several sources also recommend Frankincense, Tea Tree, and Eucalyptus.)

Diffusing these three oils together will definitely give you pleasant air to breathe.  Using a diffuser necklace has also helped me, especially when I’m on the go.  Peppermint is known to be a help with respiratory issues, Lemon is a cleanser, and Lavender calms and cares for skin.

There may be some trial and error finding the perfect concoction for you, but be sure to read your labels, and use ONLY AS DIRECTED! Though not a cure or replacement for medicine, this alternative method of allergy relief has been extremely helpful for me and leaves my house smelling wonderful!
